Description

These are hatching eggs, not eating eggs: six fertilized eggs collected from our free-range flock and packed for the incubator instead of the skillet. If you have been wanting to hatch your own chicks and watch that whole process start to finish, this is where it starts.

Fertility in our flock runs high, but we will be straight with you: shipping is hard on a hatching egg no matter how carefully it is packed. Jostling, temperature swings, and handling along the way can all affect hatch rate, so we cannot promise a set number of chicks out of six eggs. What we can promise is that every egg leaves here fertile, clean, and packed as carefully as we know how.

After they arrive

  • Let the eggs rest pointy-end down for 12 to 24 hours before setting them in the incubator, so the air cell has time to settle.
  • From there, a standard incubation for chicken eggs is about 21 days at the usual chicken-appropriate temperature and humidity.
  • Candle around day 7 to 10 to check for development, and again closer to hatch day.

Good to know: Local? Pick up in person and skip the shipping risk entirely. Would rather skip incubating altogether and just get chicks? Take a look at our baby chicks.
