Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers about pickup, delivery, freshness, and what happens if something goes wrong, from a small family farm, not a call center.
Ordering, Pickup & Delivery
How does pickup work?
We’re a small backyard operation, not a storefront, so pickup is arranged directly between us. Place your order, then reach out through our Contact page and we’ll find a time that works for both of us.
Do you offer local delivery?
For live animals like chicks, ducklings, hens, and roosters, it’s pickup or local delivery only, we don’t ship live birds. If you’re not sure whether you’re within reach for delivery, send us a note through Contact and we’ll let you know.
Do you ship anything?
Yes. Shelf-stable items like seeds and WormFuel, along with fresh eggs, are set up to ship, and shipping cost calculates automatically at checkout. Live animals stay local, pickup or delivery only, for their own safety and comfort.
The Animals
Are your chickens and ducks really free-range?
Yes. Our flock has real space to roam during the day and is never crowded. It’s a small farm, not a warehouse, and that’s on purpose. Curious who’s actually out there? Say hello on Meet the Flock.
Can I request a specific breed or sex when I order chicks or ducklings?
Reach out via our Contact page before you order. We’re a small flock, so availability shifts, but we’re always happy to talk through what you’re looking for and let you know what we have.
Do you sell fertilized eggs for hatching?
We do, look for fertilized chicken eggs in the shop alongside our regular eggs.
Eggs & Freshness
How fresh are the eggs, really?
Gathered from our own free-range flock, typically never more than a day or two old when they head your way. There’s no warehouse and no distributor in between, just the coop, the basket, and your order.
How should I store them?
Refrigerate them like you would any fresh eggs and they’ll keep well past what you’d expect from a grocery store carton.
Worms & WormFuel
What worm count should I start with?
For a small kitchen or apartment bin, 100 is a solid start. If you’re composting for a full vegetable garden, most folks land on 250 to 500. More on care and feeding on our Worms page.
How much WormFuel do I need?
One bag lasts a good while on a standard home bin fed lightly once a week. Worms aren’t big eaters, feed light and let your bin tell you if it wants more.
Are the worms alive when they arrive?
That’s the idea. We’re a small farm shipping a live product, so if anything ever seems off on arrival, contact us right away and we’ll make it right.
Payments, Damage & Returns
What payment methods do you accept?
Major cards at checkout, along with a couple of offline options if you’d rather arrange payment directly. Just ask via Contact.
What if my order arrives damaged, or something goes wrong with a live animal?
Contact us right away. Perishable goods and live animals don’t fit neatly into a standard mail-back return, so we handle these situations directly and personally rather than through a form.
What’s your general return policy?
Our full Refund and Returns Policy covers the details for standard goods. Since much of what we sell is alive or perishable, if anything about your order doesn’t seem right, the fastest fix is always to reach out directly.
Still have a question?
We’re two people running a small farm, not a big team, so you’ll hear back from an actual Ferrand.
