Help us build Helen a new home

Helen the Hen has been part of the family for years now: friendly, curious, and always the first one out of the coop in the morning, usually before anyone’s had coffee. She’s appointed herself the farm’s unofficial greeter, the one who comes trotting up when visitors walk into the yard, and she has strong opinions about anyone who shows up empty handed.

She’s earned her keep a hundred times over. Now we’d like to do right by her: we’re raising funds for a bigger, safer coop that gives Helen, and the rest of the flock, more room to roam while keeping the predators that circle any backyard flock in upstate South Carolina right where they belong, outside.

Why a new coop, why now

The coop Helen and the flock use now has done its job well, but the flock has grown since it was built, and a crowded coop is a stressed coop. Add in the hawks and foxes that are a real and constant risk for any backyard flock around here, and a bigger, better protected space stops being a nice-to-have and starts being the responsible thing to do.

Home sweet home, for now. This is what Helen’s Fund is working to expand.

Fresh lumber for a larger frame and more roosting space
A secure latch system that actually keeps raccoons out
Weatherproofing so the flock stays dry and comfortable year round

A quick, honest note: this is a fundraiser for our own family farm, not a registered nonprofit, so contributions aren’t tax deductible. Every dollar goes straight toward Helen’s coop, nothing else.

Why it matters

A new coop means more space to roam and explore, better protection from predators, and room for our small backyard flock to keep growing. Helen doesn’t know any of this is happening. She’s just going to walk out one morning to a bigger yard and act like she planned it all along.
